چکیده

In connection with a study to determine whether man could be successfully immunized against bacillary dysentery it was necessary to determine the infective dose of dysentery bacilli by feeding living Shigella to human volunteers. The only previous information concerning the susceptibility of man to experimental infection is contained in a few published observations' 3 of accidental laboratory-infections. These indicated that man was susceptible to rather large doses of dysentery bacilli, but they gave no other information.
